Ohio State Fair 2008

Last Friday I got off work a little early so San-San and I could make a trip to the Ohio State Fair. I think we have been 3 times in the 4 years we have been in Columbus, so we are big fans of the fair. By leaving earlier in the day we managed to see all we wanted to see and be home before 6pm and still be able to relax at night. Plus, it was less crowded, which was good. The main thing we love about the fair is the food. Lots to sample and enjoy. We had a fried mozzarella cheese stick which was perfect right as we walked in the gate. Then a jumbo lemonade shakeup while we walked and checked out more food vendors and shops. The weather was a little hot and sunny so the air conditioned building were a nice break from the heat.

After more walking around I ate a shrimp fried rice plate while San-San ate her sweet potato fries with all the toppings. I think she had salt, pepper, cinnamon, sugar and powdered sugar all on various parts of the fries. Then more walking around and we had to try our annual favorite: jumbo pickle on a stick. San-San loves pickles and when they are gigantic State Fair pickles, it makes it that much better. Since you can only find then a few times a year it is something we always try to eat while at the State Fair.

And after a few samples from various places like the homemade dips and cheese balls vendors, and a demonstration on Asian burgers which were good we were getting quite full.

We walked around a bit more and took in all the sights including the Budweiser Clydesdale Horses, some horticultural exhibits, a fine arts exhibit, the craft building, and we strolled by the midway and rides. We did not go on any rides, because nothing can compare with Cedar Point. All in all it was a fun day.
